I respect shodō (Japanese calligraphy) and love the expressive power of sumi (ink).

I started at the age of six, learning and working as an artist.

Shodō is simply beautiful. I believe that infinite possibilities exist within black and white. My own expression continues to evolve. I will keep creating while cherishing the spirituality conveyed through black ink, a tradition passed down in East Asia for centuries.

【東京・川崎合体教室】

今月は東京と川崎の２つの教室を合同でやりました。
来年3月の銀座展に向けての追い込みです。
この日に出来上がった方もいましたし、
「あ〜…できるかなー…間に合うかなー…」という方もいます。
でもこれまで「間に合わなかった」という方はいないので！笑

私の講座では「自ら生み出す。ゼロからイチを生み出すチカラ」を育成していくことが目的です。
そして、自分の満足を目指します。
自分が満足しないと人を感動させられませんもんね。
じゃあ、満足とはなにか。なにが満足なのか。
そこを学びます。

This month, I held a joint class for my Tokyo and Kawasaki students.
We’re now in the final stretch as we prepare for the Ginza Exhibition in March next year.
Some students have already completed their works, while others are saying things like,
“Ah… I wonder if I can finish in time…”
But so far, no one has ever actually missed the deadline!

In my classes, the goal is to nurture the ability to create something from nothing — to bring ideas to life from zero to one.
And above all, we aim for self-satisfaction.
Because unless you’re satisfied with your own work, you can’t truly move others emotionally.
So then, what does “satisfaction” really mean?
What makes something satisfying?
That’s what we explore together.

漢字一文字、紙の3辺に黒を必ず。

普通に書くとだいたい黒は足りないです。

JAPAN EXPOへの参加を決めた理由の第一は、

【関吉書道ゼミとは】

当然、手本は無いです。
「自らオリジナルを生み出すチカラを養う」のが目的です。
ゼロからイチを生み出す方法を学びます。
書道をベースにします。飛び道具は無しです。
墨、水、紙、筆のみ。
生み出すやり方があります。

ゼミでは門下生の書いてきたものを見て
互いにディスカッションしますが、
私からの第一声で「〜は良くないね」とか
「〜した方が良い」とは言いません。
「なぜこのやり方を選んだの？」と問います。
理由をきいて判断します。
門下生歴が長い方は
私がそうきいてくるのがわかってるので
理由を用意してきます。

「〜というやり方と、〜というやり方で迷ってます。
どっちがいいですか？」という質問が多いです。
色々試してる証拠なので、素晴らしいと思います。
(やってもない方には、まずやってみてから比べてください、と言います)

「どっちが良いか？」を判断する指標は
①テクニックとして難しい方
②自分の仕業以外の手数の少ない方
と言います。
(詳しい説明は割愛します)

自分のクセ、ノリ、感覚、センス、なんとなく、で書いてはいけません、と言います。
全ての線に理由があります。

来年3月のギャラリー銀座展示会に向けて、
門下生たちはそろそろ佳境に入ります。
門下生たちの質問が深く難しくなってくるので
私の脳みそも沸いてきます。

出来上がってくるのが楽しみです。

道外から4名、道内から13名で合同ゼミを
札幌にて開催しました！
午前午後で5時間！
かなり濃密な時間でした。
ひとりでひたすら書いていても
自分の脳内の繰り返しでしかないけれど
17名が集まると、他の16人の脳内を共有できるので
インプット量が半端ない！
お互いに見合ったり、質問し合ったり、
同じ仲間が知識と技術を交換し合う姿が素晴らしかったです。
お昼は、海鮮丼！✨
夜は、ジンギスカン🐑🍺
4名(岡山、大阪、愛知、千葉)が札幌に
来てくれたおかげで、素晴らしい催しができました！
参加者からは
「是非、年に一回やってください！」
「みんなでバスツアーとかもいいですね〜！」
ほほー！🙌それもいいね〜♫

For the American painter’s lesson — Session 3

“When I look at your work, Kumi, I see pale ink patterns combined with characters. In what order do you create them?”
→ Explain the process of completing a piece.

“What do you pay attention to when adding the characters?”
→ Explain about the power balance between the patterns and the characters, and why that balance is important.

“How do you create those fine, floating lines like Kumi does?”
→ Demonstrate by writing.

“I see you hold the brush higher up on the handle. Why is that?”

She has a real ability to ask good questions, so I believe she’ll improve quickly.

“When I look at your work, Kumi, I see pale ink patterns combined with characters. In what order do you create them?”
→ Explain the process of completing a piece.

“What do you pay attention to when adding the characters?”
→ Explain about the power balance between the patterns and the characters, and why that balance is important.

“How do you create those fine, floating lines like Kumi does?”
→ Demonstrate by writing.

[Second Calligraphy Lesson with the American Painter]

In our previous session, I talked about calligraphy tools and how to use them.
She then bought her own calligraphy set on Amazon, practiced in her sketchbook, and sent me photos of her work beforehand. I gave her feedback on those.

We covered:
• “Lines without resistance” and “lines with resistance”
• The two different ways of creating kasure (brush textures)

I realized again that “being able to do something” and “being able to put it into words” are completely different skills.

For interpretation, I asked Dolly to help!
She is also my student, so because she has some experience with calligraphy, she was able to translate in a way that conveyed the meaning clearly. I really appreciated that!

I also gave her homework for the next session.
I’m already looking forward to it 😊

正岡子規は脊椎カリエスという骨結核を患い、病床に伏せっていましたが、窓の外の様子を横になりながら眺めていました。そんな中、面倒をみてくれていた妹に、
何度も何度も「雪はどのくらい積もった？」と尋ねていた、
という句です。
私も雪国に住んでいますが、
リビングの窓を覆い尽くすほどの雪が毎年積もります。
窓がだんだん埋まっていく様子が、
「ああ…冬が深まるなー…」と感じるし、
溶けていって雪の高さが低くなっていくと
「もうすぐ春だな〜」と感じます。

札幌の黄色いちぢれ麺のザ・味噌ラーメンしか知らなかった私は衝撃的でした！なんと美味いラーメンなんだ！！
あれから30年。たまに札幌にある山頭火を食べては
当時を思い出します。
久々に、旭川にラーメン旅にでも行こうかな〜
まだまだあるんだよなー、美味しいラーメン屋さんが！

ホントかな？！怪しいかな？？詐欺かな？？

何度かやり取りしていくと、
どうやら本当だとわかりました。
彼女は画家さんで、書道の表現も取り入れたい、と。

とりあえず、初回、やってみよう！
通訳は門下生でもあるドリー北村さんにお願いしました。
私は“幸いにも”、彼女が話してる内容は8割がた��理解できたので、

この俳句は以前にも書きましたね。
今回は違うバージョンで書きました。

今日は私よりもちょっと後輩の女性経営者2人と
「関吉ミーティング」をしました。
私のまだまだわずかな経験ではありますが…
会社の経営を通して得た知識や失敗談や
これからどうやれば更に収入を増やせるか、などを
ディスカッションしました。
女の人で多いのが、
アイディアはものすごく浮かぶんです。
でも、それを具体的に収入に結びつけるための
一歩目、が見えてこないんですよね。
「で、今日このあとそれを実現するために何するの？」が
わからない。
私がやってきたこと、私も先輩から教えてもらったこと、を
具体的にお話ししました。
そして「やった」ことだけで満足しないように。

セミナーじゃなく、ただのミーティングです。笑
私はちゃんと税金を納められる仲間を増やしたい。一緒にやっていきたいなーと思っています。
まあとにかく、�気の合う仲間と経営の話しはお互い楽しいです。
ちゃんと収入を得て、ちゃんと税金を納める。
それが私の“できる女”の定義です。

【虚飾とは】→内容が伴わないのに外見だけを飾る、うわべの体裁。みえ。

今風に言うと「マウントを取る」になるのかな？
勝ちたい、のかなー？
「虚飾」の意味よ。
そして「癖になれば」の妙よ。

始められない人は、
おそらく一生始められないと思います。
100%の理解、100%の納得なんて
あり得るのかな〜…？
ちょっとしたきっかけ、タイミング、
関わる人、そんな感じで、まずは始めてみてから、
よし！どうせやるなら…！と走りながら
考えていけばいいのかなーと思います。

「敬意」を大切にしたいです。
私は、私に関わる全ての人たちについて、
いつも「雑になってないかな？」と
気にはしてますが、
普段ポーっと生きてるので
油断して敬意が足りなくなってしまってる場面が
あるかもしれません。
逆もしかりで、「自分を大切にする」という意味でも
私に対して雑な人とは(有り難いですが、あまりいません)
関わらないようにしています。
別に「おい！私をうやまえ！」ということではないんです。
お互いにリスペクトし合える関係がいいな〜と
思います。

祖父母が北海道の東の方の山の中に住んでいて
毎年年に1~2回遊びに行っていました。
私が成人しておばあちゃん孝行でもしようかと
「札幌に遊びに来ればいんだべさ？温泉にでも連れてくよ？」
と言うと
「なんもなんも〜いやいや〜ばあちゃんな、
窓からこの山見れんと落ち着かんのよー」と。
360°切り立った山に囲まれた所に住んでいて、
そこが好きで離れたくない、という思い。
私も札幌からは離れられな��いな〜
大雪が降って生活は麻痺するけど、
雪が降らんと落ち着かんもな〜

学んでいます。
これまで積み重ねてきたこと、「黒をどこに置くか？」
「黒の割合をどうするか？」は引き続きベースにして、
さらに、文字の配置、筆先の向き、入筆をどうするか、
終筆をどうするか、線の種類をどうするか、などの
考え方について学びます。
かなり難しいです。できないです。
再三言ってるように「できない！」を感じないと
上手くはならないので、まずは「できない」を体感しよう。
今月はできないキャンペーンです🙌

「ミューザ川崎シンフォニーホール」という
公共の施設で毎月開催しています。
広くて綺麗で便利です！(そして涼しい)
参加者も色んな地域から来ていて、
埼玉や千葉、岡山、そしてなんと鹿児島から来てる方もいます！
今回から初参加の方からは「鹿児島って…飛行機で来てるんですか？！？！」と。🤭
